The doctor said i have a slight astigmatism in my right eye.?!

Question: I'm from Mongolia, and there was one english optician so i went to him to get my eyes checked he said i had astigmatism. i didn't really know what it meant. i wear glasses but i prefer contacts. i don't think the mongolian doctors know about astigmatism, so when i got the contacts i think i just got normal contacts instead of astigmatism contacts. i've been wearing contacts for 2 years now. and is it ok for me to wear normal contacts ( i don't think they have contacts for astigmatism in my country) am i seriously harming my eyes?

Regular contacts can usually mask a .50 to .75 of astigmatism.

So you are probably within that range if they said a "slight" astigmatism.

Unless you are not seeing well with that eye, don't worry about it. If your astigmatism was bad enough that it had to be corrected with a toric lens, then you won't be seeing clear with the regular lenses. That will be your first clue...

It won't do any harm anyway...you just won't see as well if the astigmatism increases with time and it isn't corrected with a lens made for that purpose.

I've got a slight astigmatism in my right eye as well and I wear normal 2 week disposable soft contacts. It just means you're near sighted. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

i work for an eye doctor. astigmatism is just when your eye is shaped like a football and not a basketball. the astigmatism contacts help to correct it, but not wearing them shouldn't harm your eyes, you'll just always have an astigmatism.

It depends on what strength of astigmatism you have. Did the Dr recommend contacts for astigmatism? A lot of ppl have a small astigmatism but do not need it to be corrected with contacts. Your Dr should have advised you on what is best for you and your eyes. If you are still unsure, call the Dr's office. They should be happy to explain it to you.
