Why does everyone say contacts hurt?!

Question: My mom says contacts hurt, is she just lying so I won't get them? Also my friends say contacts hurt. Is this true or is their contacts noot in right, the wrong type of contacts, wrong perscirption, etc.? I really want contacts, but I'm just wondering if they hurt.

I wore soft contacts for years without any problems or pain. The only very minor difficulty that I had, if you want to call it that, is feeling like my eyes were dry if it was real windy out, or being in a small room with alot of cigarette smoke (not a smoker myself). But this is only an irritating problem at best, not painful, and very easily resolved with drops/eye rinse solutions, etc. I loved having contacts, and not having to wear glasses. Of course everybody is different, and you need to have eyes checked to be sure you could even wear them. Also, making sure they are the correct lenses for your eyes- very important. But, not knowing your age, etc, your mother may have some other reason why she doesn't want you to have contacts? Does she think you won't care for them properly? Is cost an issue? Ultimately, though, you have to respect what your mom says, she is the one that pays for the things you need, and is trying to make the best decisions for both of you. Good luck!

no

They do not hurt.

If put in properly, soft lenses don't hurt at all. Why would so many people use them if they were painful??

i have contacts and it dosnt hurt at all

Contacts do not hurt. The first couple of days, they are a little annoying; until your eyes adjust to them, but after that you rarely notice that they are in your eyes. Sometimes, when it's very windy, they will feel a little dry, but re-wetting drops cure that. The only time your eyes will hurt is if you have something like an eyelash or other foreign piece of matter in your eyes...contacts or not. :)

I know some people have very sensitive eyes. Also, I think some people may be using the wrong contacts. I have worn contacts for about 30 years and they absolutely do not hurt me. I have gas permeable contacts though. I once tried soft contacts and I thought I was going to lose my mind I was in so much pain. I'm fine with my gas perms.

It depends. Do you have sensitive eyes? When I first got my contacts, they were painful to put in, but as I got used to them they didn't hurt anymore.

Soft contacts are easy on the eyes; that's the kind I have. The most important thing is to go to your eye doctor and see what they recommend for you.

I've had contacts for about a year now.
My mom said the same thing...they didn't work for my brother and she was all "It's not going to work! Plus, you remember you aunt; she got an eye infection!"
But guess what, they worked for me. Let me tell you, contacts are amazing!! I love them; you can't feel them at all. It's like you forget you're even wearing them...and its much better vision then glasses.
It will be a little awkward when you first get them; it will be hard to put them in and out, but after a few weeks, it'll be a daily routine.

If you are fit by a competent person, your contacts should be comfortable. Initially, you will feel them slightly as your lids now have to get used to passing over the lens. Otherwise, with proper care and following a good wearing schedule, contacts can be worn very comfortably for years. If people are saying they hurt, then they are doing something wrong or were fit improperly.

I used to wear glasses untill I was fitted for my first contact lenses.

They have never hurt me at all. On really warm and windy days they tend to get a little dry but they have special drops to help.

My contacts don't hurt! You should get a lens with moisturisers or vaporising pockets. Try Acuve! That's what I have and they are so great! You can even sleep in them! (Not all night...) They are great and come at a great price compared to others on the market.

If the contacts are cared for properly (taken out and cleaned at night), worn for the right time period(for disposables) and put in the right way (not inside out), you shouldn't even feel them.

when you start, they may hurt a little bit because you are still getting used to it, but barely. once you get used to it maybe in a week or a few they will feel great. i started wearing them in august and i love them! if you are interested in getting them, you should buy focus dailies, they are the most comfortable. your mom and friends were not lying, because contacts are different on everyone because everyones different

My eyes are sensitive. I tried regular one day contacts (put em in during the morning, take them out at night), but they hurt my eyes a lot. Then I tried month long contacts (you just leave them in for a full month before taking them out), and they worked out great. They let water in and out much easier than regular contacts, so they work for me

You just have to try them out. I know lots of people that have regular contacts and they work for them. If you don't get used to them, try out another kind like I did. If they just don't work for you, just use glasses.

If you don't have problems with them (allergies, etc)they don't . You don't even notice they are there, unless your eyes dry out. Then you just put on some drops and forget you're even wearing them again.

They're not supposed to hurt, they shouldn't if you get them from the doctor. They're custom made to fit the shape of your eyeball so they should be comfortable.

They sell non-prescription contacts (usually the colored ones) that you can buy for example at walmart, and I've heard that those hurt because they aren't custom made for your eye.

Also maybe if they dry out they might hurt? But I don't think so

they can hurt if you have trouble putting them in or something nd the first couple of times it wil feel weird, but once you get used to having something on your eyeball, you dont feel a thing when they are on. so no, they dont usually hurt.

When you first wear them it will feel like there's an eyelash in your eye, but when properly worn you don't feel them at all (soft lens). I'm not sure about the hard ones. If it's the wrong prescription then everything will be blurry and you may get a headache. Good luck!

Well... I don't know about your mother but I'm 19 and when MY mother had contacts they were glass, so of course they hurt. I've been wearing contacts since 11 years old and I've never had a major problem. Contacts, even for really bad eyes, are like grape skin. If you develop a rip or a tear (even a teeny, tiny one) it is rather irritating but it doesn't hurt.
