Why do they tell you to have short nails to put on and off your contacts?!

Question: my eye doctor taught me a loong time ago how to put them on and off, but why do they tell you to keep short anils??
i cant take off my contacts when i have short nails.
and i cant pinch them out, i kinda let the contact slide onto the nail and pull it out.why dont they let me do that?

There are "supposed" to be risks involved if you have longer nails, but frankly, that's only if you are irresponsible. Of course, you COULD scratch your eye, or poke your eye out, or scratch your contact, or whatever else is supposed to be dangerous... but it's not hard to do correctly. I let my nails grow until they start to break, so they get rather long, and I can put my contacts in or take them out just fine.

dirty nails

You're suppose to use the tip of your finger to touch the contact and pull it off. Using your nails just seems dangerous at scratching the eye.

you can rip your contact with a long nail. It is easier tohandle contacts with short nails.
