Lenscrafters and contact lenses?!

Question: I have a really high prescription and an astigmatism. Last year I ordered contacts through Lenscrafters and they were expensive. This year I went to a local eye doctor and my contacts will be MUCH CHEAPER. I'm so surprised because Lenscrafters made it seem like the only contacts I could get would be super expensive. Did anyone else get ripped off at Lenscrafters?

Yes, Lenscrafters has been known to be extremely expensive, and will try to sell the most expensive brand they can, if they think they can get by with it without you noticing. My mother used to get her glasses until she noticed the same things you speak of with your contacts.

I'm not at all surprised that a smaller, private practice has your contacts at a much better deal. They have a lower overhead in most cases, and don't usually pay for the expensive television/newspaper/online advertising like Lenscrafters does.

If you aren't in desperate need of your contacts right now, you could also try 1800contacts.com. I can get my contacts a lot cheaper on there than from my eye doctor's office. They have great prices, fast shipping, and excellent customer service if you ever have a problem. With standard shipping, I have never had to wait more than 5 days to get my contacts once I've ordered them. They also have mail-in rebates on many brands of contacts, but you do have to buy 4-8 boxes to be eligible for any kind of rebate.

LOL...thousands have. Lenscrafters has a reputation for being very expensive.

Somebody has to pay for all the advertising.

I own and operate a private optometric practice and have had several patients come to me after a lenscrafters gouging. You will find most private practices will have better quality eyeglasses and competitive prices for contact lenses.
