I would suggest that you approach this with extreme caution. It is unadvisable for someone to wear contacts there were not specifically perscribed for them.

Contacts are prescribed because each person's eye is different in size and shape. The wrong size/shape could damage your eye and/or reduce your vision.

The right way to do this.. is to go and get an eye exam with a 'contact lens' fitting. You need to have the exam done on a regular basis anyway and the extra cost for the 'fitting portion' is a minimal cost add on. If you have insurance VSP, the full cost will be less than $30 in most cases.

Once you have the 'fitting' done, the eye doctor will give you the perscription information that you need to purchase the RIGHT lens.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

All contacts require a prescription, even if they are only for cosmetic purposes. Contacts are considered medical devices, regardless of the reason for you wanting/needing them.

I don't need vision correction, and wear the Freshlook colored contacts, but I still had the routine exam and fitting. You need to see an eye doctor to verify whether you do or don't need vision correction, and also to have your pupils measured. There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to contacts. It's very important to have contacts fitted for your personal eyes...poor-fitting contacts can cause discomfort, eye infections, and worse in some cases. Believe it or not, some people have actually gone blind from using contacts that aren't right for their eyes, and/or not taking proper care of the contacts.

Places that sell contacts to people without a prescription are doing so illegally, and putting buyers at risk for some serious eye issues. We only get one pair of eyes to last us our whole lives, so it's best that we take as much care of them as we can. What you do today can and will affect your vision in the future, so don't take chances with something as precious as your vision.

You can get an exam/fitting at a reasonable price at a Wal-Mart Vision Center. I don't have vision insurance, and it was only $91. That included the exam/fitting, one trial pair of colored contacts, a starter kit with solution and contact case, and my scrip so that I can order my contacts anywhere online (much cheaper) or at any eye doctor's office. Your eye doctor will also train you in all the aspects of having contacts when you have your appointment. He/she will show you how to clean/store the contacts properly, how to insert/remove them, when to change to a new pair, etc...all of which is extremely important, whether you need vision correction or not.

I can get my Freshlooks for $30ish per box of 6 lenses on 1800contacts.com. Since my vision is the same in both eyes, I can make 3 pairs from one box, and wear each pair for 2 weeks. The places that sell contacts by the pair illegally want anywhere from $20-30 for one pair...by having a scrip, I get more for my money by being able to legally purchase them by the box, and I know I'm doing all I can to take care of my eyes.
