Has Anyone Heard Of Floaters?!

Question: As anyone ever heard the term floater? I have this issue that every so often I see this little black think floating in the corner of my eye. Of course if I try to focus on it, or look at something else it disappears. After asking my mother she says it's some little tiny spec of debri that gets stuck in your eye and there's nothing the eye doctor can do it about it. Apprently this happens with age. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Please let me know. Thanks.

It's normal to have floaters. There is no treatment for them, but if you have a lot of them and they are very bothersome then it could be a symptom of some other eye disease (retinal detachment) and you should see an ophthamologist.

I heard the term once, but involved a pool and a.....thingy.

It's not debris; if it were, then you would feel it. See an eye doctor.

Yes, we talked about it in anatomy class. I would call the eye doctor to get a second opinion just to be safe. Its not worth damaging your eyes.

Unless your mother is an eye doctor, don't listen to her. It sounds rude by really... floaters are generally harmless but could be caused by an inflammed optical nerve, which needs to be monitored.
