Why does images distort while moving the head horizontally with a progressive le!

Question: I have bought a Carl Zeiss progressive lens (power of +1.00). While reading or watching Monitor, if I move my head up and down on a vertical plane, the images are clear and do not distort.
But if I move my head on a horizontal plane, on either direction, the images seem to move on, giving a momentary distortion. Ex, a rectangular monitor seems to take a oblong shape, elongated horizontally at the top.
Why does this happen? Is it characteristic of the progressive lens or is it a lens fault? The lens is a genuine Carl Zeiss make.

Actually is it a progressive, which incorporates distance, computer and near, or Zeiss Business, which is a blended computer and near lens only? Either way, the way they are made does take some adjusting to. A conventional lined bifocal works very well for the computer, with computer at the top and near in the bifocal segment. No blending, so you get more field of view. Check with where you got them and see if there is a trial time with the Zeiss lens. If you cannot adjust, they may make you another set of lenses, like a lined bifocal, at no cost within a specific period of time. if you need correction for distance, than a standard lined bifocal will only give you far and near and no computer, you'll need a trifocal for that. If you don't use them for far, ask about using the lined bifocal as I described earlier.

All progressives do that.

The vertical column that has the progressive power in it isn't very wide, and the where power blends into the distance portion...it will cause some distortion when you move like that.

You have to move your head, not your eyes to follow on a horizontal plane.

That is quite normal...and takes some time to get used to, but it will become second nature before long.

the specialty of the lens is multy point focal length oriented one,and only on fixation of the object we happened to see the object clearly, if moved on all points of focal length you do not get any clear image.

What the first reply said...

but, if this effect is annoying, you could get single-vision glasses made up with the reading prescription, or get the bifocals with lines. You could get either style from Walmart for under $100 if you go with basic frames (or bring in an old frame to get new lenses), or from Sears (when they're having that $99 sale).
