Polycarbonate or Hi Index materials will make your lenses lighter and thinner but the best way to reduce the magnifying affect of your prescription is to wear aspheric lenses. These lenses are typically flatter then regular spherical lenses and minimize the affect you are describing.

start with a visit to an ophthalmologist ...

You dont have a lazy eye. Those are extremely rare and nowdays most Opthamologist MD's dont even recognize such a thing.

Your vision requires a magnifier lens that increases the size of your eye balls when people look at you Nothing can be done about that.

You can get contact lenses to rid of the problem totally. Those nowdays are really cheap, the throw away kind.

Contact lenses would not make your eyes bigger. If you want glasses that are not as thick you could get high index lense. But your eyes will still look bigger with these lenses. It sounds like it has always turned in which is called congenital esotropia. This could be corrected by contacts or glasses. If the eye is still turning in there is special therapy from an optometrist and if it is still a problem strabismus surgery It is unlikely you will need surgery even if it is extreme. The best should be glasses or contact lenses.
