How do contacts feel?!

Question: I've had glasses which i barely wear, but now my eyesight is getting worse, and I think I need to wear my eyeglasses more often.. which is like EWW. So, i'm getting contacts for the first time. Anyway, my question is are they comfortable? Do they irritate your eyes? Some of my friends say their comfy, but I saw this one guy who was putting in contacts and his eyes were all red and watery! So, basically HOW DO THEY FEEL?

i'm getting those daily disposables by the way. and what brands are the best?

People react very differently. When I first got mine, I could feel them all the time. Sometimes you can almost feel them pulling down on your eyes. Eventually you get used to it and can even forget they're there. It's similar to when you first get glasses.

If you have allergies, they can be bothersome at times. If you leave em in too long, get 'em wet, or sleep in them they get uncomfortable. I know people who do get bothered by them just naturally, but it's not too too common.

like a million bucks

You will like soft lens. I used to wear the ridgid but love these now.

dont get disposables... they suck.

i get the one month ones and i dont have to take them out at night... its soooo good.
they dont feel like anything when they're in.
taking them in and out takes a bit of getting used to. it can be a bit icky at first.

I use Acuvue Dailies. You get used to them, and by the night, the sort of suck, but by then its late at night anyways. I like them. You get used to them quickly.

they only irritate your eyes if your hands were dirty while you were putting them in, or if you didn't clean the contact properly before you put it in. but once they're in your eyes properly they don't feel like anything at all. very comfortable. i wear the brand "fresh look" i like them they're very comfortable.

I don't like them.

They feel great, if your doctor gives you the ones that are soft and wonderful. Hard lenses are more difficult to use, but they still are OK. But go for the soft ones, and the newest ones. You can't feel a thing.

As to the boy who looked irritated with contacts, he may have hard ones, or he may have another problem. I started wearing them in 1975 (hard ones, ouch) and the newest ones are unbelievably comfortable.

but, as with anything if any problems do arise, check with your doctor, not us. Professionals are most important with eyes, as you don't get any other ones.

the best brand i used so far is the Johnsn and johnson's acuvue dailies, they can be uncomfortable at the first time but getting used to takes no time at all.
I must say that mascara smudge can cause some discomfort as well, so i suggest use those high quality ones.
cheers!

They feel like a chocolate giraffe sucking on your eyeball.

I wear Acuvue 2, two week daily wear lenses. I've tried numerous brands, and I like these the best. Lens brands are a personal thing. Have the eye doctor recommend a pair, and if they are too uncomfortable try a different brand when you get new lenses.

they feel pretty painful/irritating at first.. it will take a little while to get used to them but once you do youll be aright. Just make sure to get acuvue oasis or one thats really moist so it doesn't bother your eyes.

for all three questions the answer is yes for beginner, the one had the red eye and watering is also possible for the first first wear and subsequently the cornea starts accommodating the contacts and in next wear the out come be good feeling you can enjoy ---added to this after taking the reading about fitting of contacts standard contract would have been put to see your tolerance--- that gives a good idea about future tolerence or your good feelings --- provided your power is more than -7.00 or +6.00.

As long as the prescription, brand, and fit are right for you, they feel fine. You won't even notice them anymore after you've been wearing them for a week or two. However, contact lense fitting is a science in and of itself. It can take several tries or more before you find the right ones for you. Your doctor will do their best to start off with the right ones, and you'll go home and wear them for a week. Then you'll go in again and the doctor will ask if they're comfortable, how well you can see, and check your vision themselves while you're wearing the lenses. This is when it's VERY important to discuss any and every issue you think you may have. Remember, if they are right for you, they will barely be noticable.

Expect, though, for the lenses to irritate your eyes considerably at first. This is normal. It will feel like there is something in your eye and may burn a little. But once you're used to wearing them, this should go away.

As far as what brands are the best, you can't just choose. Well, at least not like you can jeans. You can speak with your doctor and say what brands you are interested in, but as every brand fits differently (and some of them even vary as to what prescriptions they make) you will most likely just be given what is right for you. I happen to believe that dailies are the healthiest for your eyes, however they are some of the most expensive. Two-week disposables are what most people go for, because they are in between dailies and extended wear (which can damage your eyes over time). Extended wear contacts can damage your eyes because every day you wear each pair of contacts, your eyes produce protein which sticks to the lenses. No contact lense cleaner can completely remove this. Over time, the deposits can block the oxygen from getting to your eyes, cause veins to enlarge to bring more oxygen into the eye. This causes problems. So speak to your doctor about your concerns about your eye health and financial concerns.
