Question: If I have perfect vision but want colored contacts, would that ruin my eyesight, cause I have REALLY boring brown-black eyes!

No, no kind of contacts will ruin your eyesight as long as you take good care of the contacts (proper cleaning/storing, changing to a new pair as directed, only wearing them for as many hours a day as your eye doctor says, etc). You will need a prescription for colored contacts though, even if they aren't for vision correction. Contacts are always considered medical devices regardless of the reason someone wants/needs them.

You can make an appointment with your eye doctor for an eye exam and contact fitting. After you've had that done, the eye doctor will let you try out as many colors as you like, so you can decide what colors you do and don't like before you actually start ordering them by the box. You will probably need the more opaque style of colored contacts, since you have darker eyes. They are the only ones that will completely change the eye color of a dark eyed person. The enhancers are for light eyed people; they don't usually show up much if at all on darker eyes. The eye doctor will also train you in insertion/removal of contacts, how to clean/store them, etc. You'll be sent home with at least one trial pair of contacts in the color of your choice, and your prescription so that you can order your contacts from anywhere you choose online or at any eye doctor's office. I prefer to order mine from 1800contacts.com, because they have great prices and really fast shipping. Even with the standard shipping I get my contacts in 5 days or less, and you can always upgrade to express shipping if you need them faster.

I wear the Freshlook colored contacts without vision power, and have been for quite some time. I've never had any problems with them or my eyes, and I enjoy giving my eyes a little extra color boost with them. I usually wear the Dimensions, which are enhancers...but I have green eyes naturally, so the Dimensions do show up on my lighter colored eyes.

Why would it ruin your eyesight ?

They wouldn't be sold if they did that.

As long as you take care of them right, there is no problem.

Although after all the expense, you will probably find before long that it isn't worth the hassle of caring for them, the constant expense of the solutions, and even just feeling them in your eyes all the time when you know you don't really have to.

For those who need contacts to see with , they get used to it...but for those who just want them as a toy, the thrill usually wears off quite fast and they end up in a drawer somewhere.

Just be sure to get a professional fitting done first to make sure they will fit you right.

As long as you follow all the advice your optician gives you (eg. how to clean and the maximum number of hours/days they are suitable to wear) then it'll be fine.
The only problem is if your natural eye colour is really dark then the coloured contacts available will not really change the colour of your eyes, especially if you want them to look natural or go very light like blue or green. Book in for a consultation with your optician, they'll let you try different colours out, don't set your hopes too high though, you'll never get natural looking blue eyes, just a lighter brown....

No. You dont need to get prescription contacts to get colored contacts, you can get cosmetic ones. I think you still go to the eye doctor, but it wont ruin your eyes one bit.

Good luck!!
