Pink Eye

Either Pink eye which is very common... the crustiness should accure in the morning... your eyes would also be a little red or pink. I do know when my son gets a cold the cold comes out in his eyes and causes the crustiness, he has a clogged tear duct...hes had it since he was afew months old. Best of luck! If its only in one eye make sure you dont spread it to the other eye.

Crusty eyes doesn't necessarily mean an eye infection at all. It could stem from eye dryness or other things. If the crustiness is accompanied by one or more of the following symptoms, it couldn't hurt to see an eye doctor; itching, burning, stinging, pain, swollen around the eyes, redness, mattering closed when waking in the a.m.
Crustiness could also come from a sinus infection, allergies or head cold.
Also if you notice any change or bluriness in your vision it is always important to see your local eye doctor.

Good Morning,

What you are describing sounds like conjunctivitis, which is otherwise known as pink eye.

Symptoms of this contagious eye infection also consist of redness of the eye(s) (why it is called pink eye), along with itchiness, burning, increased tearing of the eye(s), green or white discharge, thick yellow discharge that crusts around the eye(s), sensitivity to light.

You will need to schedule an appointment with your doctor so that you can obtain antibiotics, usually in the form of medicated eye drops that will treat the infection. Sometimes an oral medication will be added to the treatment plan along with the eye drops.

Tips to handle this infection: Make sure that you wash your hands with hot water and soap frequently, do not touch your eyes. If they are encrusted, use a facial cloth with hot water to help soak and remove the crusting so that you can open your eyes and remove infectious matter (launder the facial cloths after use). Do not share your make up with anyone. Do not wear makeup while the infection is present, and if you have used make up while having symptoms of this infections, discard the make up and replace it. Otherwise you can reinfect yourself. Wear your eye glasses while the infection is present and not your contact lenses.

Basically, it is the inflammation of the conjunctiva, which is the thin, clear tissue that covers the white of your eye and also lines the eye lid.

There are many ways you can get this inflammation which can turn into an infection.

Pollen
Contact lens allergy by some wearers
Sinus cavity infection
Viruses
Irritants like shampoo, dirt, smoke, pool chlorine
Gonorrhea or Chlamydia

Take care and get to feeling better soon.

Every one keeps throwing out pink eye, well pink eye is just a term for having a "pink eye", It could be allergies, it could be dry eyes, or it could be a bacterial or viral infection. Either way there is only one way to find out. Go to your eye doctor and let him test to see exactly what it is, thats the only way to know 100%.
