Why is my eye red?!

Question: My left eye is red, only on the left side of the eye. It's been like this for the past approximately 3 weeks. I don't think its pink eye, there is absolutely no crust around my eyes or anything, it doesn't itch or hurt it's just really red. I've tried Visine drops, but it just comes back. Why is my eye staying red?

If your eye does not show any signs of discharge then there is a good chance that you do not have pink eye. However if your eye is red it may indicate that you have conjunctivitis.

Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, a thin, transparent layer covering the surface of the inner eyelid and the front of the eye. It affects people of all ages. The three main types of conjunctivitis are infectious, allergic and chemical. The infectious form (which you do not beleive you have) is commonly known as "pink eye," and is caused by a contagious virus or bacteria. Allergies to pollen, cosmetics, animals or fabrics often bring on allergic conjunctivitis. And, irritants like air pollution, noxious fumes and chlorine in swimming pools may produce the chemical form. Certain forms of conjunctivitis can develop into a serious condition that may harm your vision. Therefore, it is important to have conjunctivitis diagnosed and treated quickly.

To prevent spreading conjunctivitis:

-Keep your hands away from your eyes;
-Thoughly wash hands before and after applying eye medications;
-Do not share towels, washcloths, cosmetics or eyedrops with others;
-Seek treatment promptly.

If your eye continues to have the symptoms above I would suggest going to see an eye care practitiner.

yeah i was gonna say pink eye but you should really go see a doctor. that is very unusual for such a long time

It could be an inflammation called episcleritis. See an ophthalmologist.
