Weird temporary blurred vision thing?!

Question: Yesterday night I was alternating between reading books and using the computer when my vision abruptly started blurring. The colors were smeared in kind of a prism-like effect, as if the light was going through distorted glass. It was blurred in lines across my vision, and other areas were unblurred. It made it quite difficult to read or do anything in particular. After like 20 minutes ( or so it seemed) it went away. Any idea what this could have been? Some side effect of eyestrain? ( I have been reading a lot...and I read while wearing glasses because my nearsightedness is so extreme that if I don't wear them I have to stick the paper right up to my nose).

I have this happen quite frequently. Usually a couple times a week and it lasts a couple hours at a time. Typically if I take some Excedrin Migraine it does go away. I've heard that it is visual migraines and it is something I've discussed with my optometrist. For me though things are a bit more complicated because I do have neurological problems...I have Multiple Sclerosis. It does cause me to have migraines frequently and I've had these visual disturbances often.

For you it could just be visual migraines but I would mention it to your doctor so they can take a look at your eyes and make sure nothing else is going on.
