No contacts are going to be harmful to your eyes as long as you take good care of the contacts...which means daily cleaning/storing, only wearing for the recommended number of hours per day, changing to a new pair as directed, etc.

The yearly wear contacts aren't too cheap. Since they are so costly, most people cannot afford to keep extras on hand in case they damage one. If that happened, then you would have to wear glasses until you could get that one replacement lens, or see if you doctor could give you a trial pair of some kind of contacts til you got your replacement lens. With disposables, you are more likely to have an extra lens on hand to replace the damaged one, since they aren't that expensive.

You will need a protein remover with yearly lenses, along with your normal solution. Over time, protein builds up on the contacts, and can make them very uncomfortable and cause you to have blurred vision. Protein buildup isn't near as noticeable with the disposable types, because you don't wear them for near as long before changing to a new pair. Most people do not need protein remover with disposables. Many people also say they don't find the yearly wear lenses to be near as comfortable either.

Have you talked to your doctor about bi-weekly or monthly disposables? That may be an option for you, and it might even help you save some money too. You would have to clean them daily though, since you wouldn't throw them away after one wear like you can do with the ones you have now.

i think glasses are better
