Thin lenses?!

Question: which compny manufactures the thinnest, high prescription lenses for eye glasses

Answers: which compny manufactures the thinnest, high prescription lenses for eye glasses

It doesn't matter what company is used. A 1.67 will be the same from all manufacturers...or a 1.74 will all be the same...whichever index is chosen.

A Zeiss won't be any thinner than a Pentax or Nikon, or Seiko, or Sola or any other brand.

They all have a 1.0 mm center thickness. In " stock" single vision lenses.

If the lenses have to be ground, like for a bifocal, then the thickness can vary depending on what the lab does. They can bring it down to 1.0 or put it at 1.4...or whatever is asked for.

Some one said a 1.8...that is only in glass. There is no 1.8 in plastic lenses.

Everybody has 1.8 lenses in glass , not just Pentax...

I believe it's Pentax they certainly do a 1.8

The best lenses you can get are Carl Ziess Lenses. They are by far the thinnest for high index lenses, but that is reflected in the price

Pentax lenses are not the best! It's just the brand Specsavers use because they bought all their old stock up dirt cheap.

Any lens manufacturer produce thin or "high index" lenses. You can get 1.9 glass lenses, they are the thinnest you can get but will still be quite heavy because they are made of glass. You can get a 1.74 plastic lens for minus prescriptions and a 1.67 for plus prescriptions.

You haven't said what prescription you have so I can't say what is the best lens for you.

Go to a good opticians and discuss lenses and frames with an advisor or dispensing optician. Your frame choice is really important, really it's more important than your lens choice. A good optician will advise you on the best frame shape and size to give you the thinnest possible lens. Where I work (Vision Express) we can order in the lenses in all different sizes this way we can get smallest lens to fit in your frame which means it will be the thinnest possible lens for you.

As a rule of thumb choose a frame where your eyes a right in the centre of the lens and not too wide. Then pick one that is not square in shape, round is always best whatever you prescription.

Hope this helps!

Pentax are the best.
