I call them eye boogers. It sounds gross but that's what they look like. Little slimey things, that's how you end up with "sand" in your eyes. Sometimes you can see them other times they just come out in the corners.
There could be something on the inner side of your eyelid.
Maybe you've got floaters or "freckles" in your eye. An optometrist told me I have those, most likely from an injury.
