Symptoms from new contact lens wearer, whats the problem?!

Question: Its been about 6 days of wearing RGP lenses and I'm experiencing the following:

cloudy vision (Usually after long periods of wear)
blurry vision (clear to less clear both with blur. Happens at near and far)
Edge of lens is visible (Most noticeable when I use my perirhinal or my eyes are watery or dry out)
headache: (probably from straining to see through all the blur)
Vision fluctuations: after I blink it gets clearer than a couple seconds later blurry, never gets totally clear

Right vs Left eye: right eye maintains vision better at far while left eye maintains vision better at near. Right eye blurs out of focus severely after reading for 10 seconds. Staring for a few seconds far away makes both eyes blur out. Left eye is blurry at distance.

My eyelids droop: which make the lens move down a lot

Morning problems (happened before getting RGP)

cloudy vision
dry-red eyes
blurrier vision
crusties and mucus

What should I do or tell my doctor? I'm calling tommorrow.

LOL...Print out what you just said, and read it back to the Doc....I'm sure she will be thrilled to hear it...lol

Either your lenses are completely wrong for you as far as fitting an Rx goes , or you just can't wear RGP's because of the droopy lids and dry eyes.

Everything that can be wrong with RGP's is happening to you.

Had you been wearing soft lenses prior to the RGP's ?

The blurring after a few seconds gaze, and clearing and blurring out when you blink a few times are all indicative of curvature problems...which in turn could be because the edges are too thick, so it can't sit how it should at the center of the lens.

I would love to actually see them on you.

Your lenses could very likely be fitting too tight..so no tear film can get between your eye and the lens. No tear film will cause a blur...and even drops can't get in between.

You said yesterday it was stuck there...it has to be fitting very tight to make a suction like that.

I think that after seeing all the problems you have with them , she will be glad to just give you your money back.

She can get a complete credit within 60 days, so it only cost her , her time.

You would be better off to start over with someone who has more experience in RGP's after you have moved.

Successful RGP fittings require very precise measurements to start with...then a very good lab who can translate those measurements into a workable solution...then the experience to recognize and be able to correct any fitting problem after the delivery.

She may be lacking in at least 1 of the 3.

Good luck to you

Sorry you will be losing money in that deal.

You said a few days ago that she didn't even check the fit when you put them on the first time...that isn't a professional way to fit them for sure.

With the problems you have, they won't get better no many how many chances you give them.

You have been very patient I think, and gave them a fair chance.

I don't know what she means by an "estimate" just because the exam was done elsewhere...she is responsible for the measurements and fitting done after.

So sorry you had such a bad experience with them.

I would ask for a refund, and try again after you have moved, with a new Dr. or optician who has lots of experience with RGP's....

You are probably a more difficult patient to fit because of the eyelids, but it can still either be done, or recognized right away that it can't because of how the lids droop.

Droopy lids don't always mean they can't be worn.

Good luck

Did the doctor tell you the correct way to ease your eyes into hard contacts? For hard contacts you need to build up sort of a callus on your eye. My eye doctor told me...

Day one : wear contacts for 2 hours
Day two:wear contacts for 4 hours..
Day three: wear contacts for 6 hours..

You get the point....

From my experience, the cloudy vision for me was always from too much protein deposits on the contact and I would use an overnight Enzymatic Cleaner from Boston and everything would be fixed. You also need to clean your contacts every day if you don't do so already.

I could always see the edge of my contact, infact I could feel it move after blinking..

But I would talk to your doctor about your problems and make sure they are fit correctly.

haha well its cloudy because your wearing them for long hours...its the build up of all the junk in your eyes or whatever.i take my contacts out when i get home from school and wear my glasses the rest of the day cause my lenses used to get cloudy from having them in my eyes too long.

I agree with the above statement to print out your description and take it to the doctor. Footprintz forgot to mention for you to stop wearing your lenses. If you are having so many problems go back to your doc. Did your doctor examine the lenses on your eye when you picked them up? Are your eyes healthy or do you have a cornea condition? Your problem could be a problem with the fabrication of the lens, a fit problem, poor tolerance to the material, dry eye.... a multitude of other considerations. Stop wearing the lens, go back to your doc, let them sort things out.
