I have worked for a eye Dr. for 15 yrs, no it is not painful , it is just a little scary at first, no one wants to put anything in there eye, think about it. All you do is take a lens try putting on your dominate pointer finger, if the lens is not inside out it will have a round bowl shape, if the lens is inside out, one side of it will go flat, if this happens take the lens turn it inside out rinse it off with solution, take your other fingers on the same hand and pull the bottom of your eye down, with other hand take your 2 fingers and hold your lashes up, don't blink and take your finger and put cl on eyeball , then close your eye and very gently pat your eyelid, this will make your cl suck on to your eye. If this doesnt work try your middle finger the same way. When taking it out hold bottom of your eye down take thumb and finger pinch cl and pull it out, sometimes you may have to squirt solution in your eye. This really just takes practice. by the way it will not go behind your eye,it will only stay in your eye.

No, it's not painful, you just have to be comfortable touching your eye. It sometimes moves around in your eye if it is not in properly(inside out) but it will not get lost in your eye. It may be hard to do at first, but it gets way easier with practice. When I put mine in, it place it on the pointer finger of my right hand, and use the finger next to it to pull down the skin on the bottom of my eye, then I use the other hand to lift the eyelid a bit, and I look up. Then you gently press it on your eye and presto. Close your eye, massage the eyelid a bit to get it into the correct place, and your done! If you go to get some they will give you tips and teach you how to put them in.

When you put contact lenses in for the first time (esp. semi-rigid gas permeable lenses) they will initialy irritate your eye until you get used to them which takes about a week to two weeks.
I first had contact lenses fitted in 1980 and it was like I had fine sand in my eyes for the first few hours. After about a week my eyes were almost used to them. If you stop wearing them for any great length of time your eyes will need to go through that again when you put them back in

Good advice above except..... just go to your doctor and have them properly fit and teach you how to use contacts. At this point, we are not even sure if you are a candidate for contacts!
