Is it alright to wear the wrong sized contact lense?!

Question: One of my contact lenses ripped recently, and I don't have any more left. I also won't be able to get new ones until next week, but a friend of mine had a spare one with the same strength. Is it alright to wear, even though the diameter and B.C. are slightly different than mine?

Unfortunately, it's not okay. A wrong sized contact lens will not only cause discomfort but it can cause some serious problems to the surface of your eye. If the BC (base curve) is different, it can either be too steep or too flat. This compromises the fit of your contact lenses. Therefore, it can move excessively, which rubs off the cells on the front of your eyes. On the other extreme, it can hug your eye too tightly and badly affects the layer of tears to fully cover your eyes. This causes your eyes to swell and makes your vision hazy. Are these the hard contact lenses or soft?

My recommendations: If you have a pair of glasses, you might use them for the time being until you can get an appointment for refilling your contacts.

Hey!! Definitely not! You could seriously damage your eyes if you use it, even for a little while. Lenses are specifically made in your size to avoid this. I would wait until next week, if you have any glasses (i'm sure you are groaning right now if you have a pair because you don't like wearing them) then use them as the substitute instead. It is better to be safe then sorry. Good luck!!

Try it...if it bothers your eye, take it off.

You won't cause any damage by trying it.

Soft lenses are quite forgiving...depending on the brand, and the actual difference in the base curve, it might work fine to help you out.

A difference in the diameter from 14.0 to 14.2 is nothing.

Base curve from 8.3 to 8.4 is the same thing...8.6 & 8.7 is the same also.

worse thing that can happen about the wrong size is it can either fold, or pop out when you blink, or feel like its swimming on the surface, or sometimes can feel tight on your eye...depends if its too flat, steep, big, or small

It's not going to kill you, but anyway don't forget to go for yours next week.

definitely not.i think you are heading the danger way.the first thing is that you will damage the sensitive tissues of ur eye and then the lens would lose its shape.moreover this can lead to a chronic effect.i suggest that you refrain from wearing those lenses.at the same time try not wearing any of the lenses.its necessary that you learn to keep away from lenses for atleast some time.so that it helps you in times like these
