Semi blindness for a while???!
Question: I sometimes and for no apparent reason get large flashing multi couloured shapes appear in my vision. This actually gives me blindspots and gives me a headache after a while. Seems to leave no damage and usually fades after 20 mins or so
Has anyone else suffered these symptoms and knows what it is?

You are describing a classic ophthalmic migraine. For some people the visual symptoms precede a migraine headache. If this is not the case for you then there is no good way to treat them because the symptoms resolve too quickly for meds to help. If they are truely bothersome try to determine what triggers them and avoid what causes your symptoms. Classic triggers are stress, caffeine, hard cheeses, wine, and chocolate.
I havent experienced it but I know whenever I get an eye exam the doctor asks me if I have colors or flashes in my eyes. It must be significant so you should see a professional.
