Are coloured contact lenses bad for your eyes?!

Question: I think the idea of being able to enhance or change my eye colour is great. I don't need glasses / contacts, I just want to change my eye colour.
Assuming I follow the instructions and keep them clean etc, is it still bad for my eyes to wear contacts if I don't need them?

Hey!
iv worked in optics for 5 years and can tell you coloured contact lenses are perfectly safe depending how you go about it.
If you do not need a prescription you should still get them from an optician, if you buy them from a shop that just tends to sell them i.e argos or piercing shops they can damage ur eye because most people are not 100% on the procedure of putting them in and out, you dont get any solutions with them (conditioning and cleaning solution) and the material they use is harder which can cause irritation.

If you still fancy coloured lenses go to your local optician they will need an up todate eye tst, even if its an eye test that says you dont need glasses, and u to date, being within the last year, the optician will put somelenses in your eyes and you will wander about for about 20 mins to see if you find them comfortable, then the optician will check your eyes have taken to them, if they have they will sit you down with someone who will teach you how to safely take them in and out!

They are fun,

good luck

Since you are, indeed, sticking something in your eye, there's always some risk. You or the contact could scratch your eye, you could develop an infection, ect.

However, with proper care, cleaning, and handling of contacts, the risk is very much minimal. They're not just going to harm your eyes simply because you wear them.

No it is great if u take care of the lenses.

No type of contacts are "bad" for your eyes, providing you take proper care of the contacts (only wearing for as many hrs a day as recommended, changing to a new pair as recommended, cleaning and storing properly, correct vision power if needed, etc.), and that they have been properly fitted by an eye doctor.

I wear the Freshlook Dimensions colored contacts for color enhancement purposes only; I don't need vision correction. I have never had any trouble with my eyes, nor has my vision declined any since starting to wear the contacts. It's really all in how you take care of them...as long as you follow all instructions, you should be just fine. I love mine; they are really comfortable and I enjoy giving my eyes a little extra color boost. Just know that it will take you possibly up to 2 weeks for your eyes to adjust to wearing any kind of contacts...but after that adjustment period, the contacts should be very comfortable. I am completely used to mine, and I honestly can't even feel them when they are in.

I assume you know that you will need a prescription for them, even if they aren't for vision correction. Contacts are always considered medical devices, regardless of why someone wants/needs them. Your eye doctor will give you the routine eye exam, to verify whether you do or do not need any vision correction, then he/she will measure your pupils to make sure you get the right size of contacts. It's all quick and painless. After that, you will be trained on all the aspects of having contacts- cleaning/storing, insertion/removal, etc. The eye doctor will let you try out as many colors as you want while you are in his/her office, and you will be sent home with at least one trial pair, along with your prescription so that you can order your contacts from anywhere online or at any eye doctor's office. I personally prefer to use 1800contacts.com, because they are much cheaper and have really fast shipping as well. I usually have my contacts within 5 days of ordering them, even with the standard shipping.
