I have never worn contacts but I have had a few corneal erosions or scratched cornea. These can be very painful. I would stop wearing my contacts and try to keep my eyes closed. You may want to consult and eye doctor it may be part of a larger problem.

Sometimes you get a faulty contact lens. They can cause increased irritation to your eye. You could try changing your contacts in advance if its really bothering you.
It could also be your not cleaning your contacts well enough, or there simply just to old.

You probably have dry eyes. Try using some contact-friendly LUBRICANT (not visine!) eye drops. If you don't have any right now, take OUT your contacts and put just a dab of the solution in each eye- since it's meant to go in your eye, it wont do harm, but don't use this long term, pick up eye drops in the morning. Make sleeping with a mask on a habit- if you keep your eyes slightly open in sleep, you might not be aware of it, but your eyes are! "relax" your eyes by putting a cloth of warm (not hot!) water on your closed or semi closed contact-free eyes until it cools down- it'll do wonders.

If your dryness doesn't get manageable and you find yourself using more and more eyedrops and seeing worse, talk to your doctor. A drug called restasis may help.

I certainly think you should have this checked out.

I have what's called dry eye. When my eyes feel like there is sand in them or are just plain irritating, I put and drop or two of eye drops in both eyes.

Ophthalmologist told me to purchase over the counter eye drops. They don't need to be a brand name or cost a lot of money, which they don't.

He said some eye drops will fog your eyes for just a little while, but there are others that don't. I don't want to be walking around in a fog, so I make sure the eye drops are the non fog type.

I will tell you this, it's very soothing to your eyes. I keep a bottle in my purse, bathroom, kitchen, office. I'm too lazy to walk upstairs for my eye drops. You would probably only need one drop in each eye. The eye drops will clear up the irritation very quickly. The drops are safe and won't hurt your eyes. However, to be on the safe side, have your eyes checked before using. It could be something else.

maybe optical herpes sorry to say this..but its worth checking out
