Issues with Hard Contacts?!

Question: For years I been wearing soft contact lenses but this last month I went to the eye doctor and he recommended me wearing hard contacts from now on...he said that they would be uncomftorable but soon you get use to them....well I been wearing them for 2 weeks now and the worst for me was the first 2 days where they would hurt so much...but now im a little used to them (as far as irritating my eyes). The ONLY PROBLEM is THAT IM SQUINTING ALOT!!! and when I'm not squinting my eyes look like I'm high on drugs. Am I the only one with this problem? Please give me some advice cuz right now I'm the laughing stock at work. : (

I'm in the same boat with you sir. I got RGP hard contacts 6 days ago and I am sick of them. Fitting RGP lenses require a competent person which I wasn't fortunate enough to have. My lady gave me ones that give me cloudly vision, blurred vision constantly, and i can see the edge of the contact. Whats worse is I have to constantly blink while reading because after a few seconds everything gets out of focus. I got an appointment for tommorrow and I'm either getting a new pair that works or a new doctor.

While you do have to get adjusted to them they should get a lot better after 2 weeks. You may have dry eyes, which may cause you to have red eyes, or it could be a bad fit. In my case I squint a lot becacuse my vision goes in and out of focus. If thats the case you need to go to your doctor and have it checked out.

While it is irritating to have hard contacts at the beginning it shouldn't be hell after 2 weeks. You need a competent doctor to evaluate it and fix the problem. It takes precision to get it the right lens for your eyes, and it takes a good doctor to treat any dry eye you could be getting from the lenses.

Hang in there. Once you eliminate all the potential problems with your doctor then you might consider quitting. Usually you can get a refund for most of it if it doesn't work out. However, If you have dry eyes, soft contacts could make it worse. If all the problems are dealt with you should be almost perfectly fine after 3 weeks of wear time. Of course there could be a slight possibility your eyes can't wear them for some other reason not treatable. Just go to your doctor and complain to them until its sorted out.
