Good for you for asking for the eye exam. You will find frames that flatter your face and while people may mention that you are wearing glasses, it really is unlikely you will be teased about it. Looking at yourself in the mirror it will seem strange at first to be wearing glasses, but you'll get used to them, and realize not only do you look great, but so does everyone else and the blackboard too! You are also likely to feel less tired. Squinting and struggling to see during the day is tiring.

I think you watch TV too closely because you can't see it. It is unlikely that sitting to close to it or your computer caused your bad vision. The fact that everyone else in your family needs glasses is a pretty fair indicator of your likelihood of needing glasses.

If you have questions at the doctor's office, don't be afraid to ask them. They are your eyes you have a right to have any questions you have answered.

By the way, when you are getting your exam, ask the eye doctor to explain what the numbers 20/20 mean. I think you may have it wrong. I THINK it means that what people with good vision can see at 20 feet, you can see at 20 feet. The first 20 is always there representing what "normal" is and your number would be the second number. I have VERY bad vision and without my glasses my vision is 20/400 meaning that what most people can see at 400 feet, I can see at 20 feet. Thankfully, my vision is 20/20 with my glasses. If you have exceptionally good vision, your number may be 20/15 or 20/10.

It'll be ok. Think how wonderful it will be when you're able to see clearly without straining. Eye exams are fairly simple. They'll look at your eyes, making you look up, down, and around. They'll have you look through a machine with various lenses in it, switch them around, and ask you which one is clearer. Sometimes neither one is. They also do the classic chart - covering one eye and telling you to read the smallest line of letters you can see. They may blow a little puff of air in your eyes, using a machine, to test for glaucoma. They may also put drops in to dilate your pupils for other tests. The puff of air is annoying, and you'll have problems focusing on things with your pupils dilated, but nothing is painful.

There's so many types of lenses available these days - I'm sure you can find a nice frame to suit your face - just remember that you don't HAVE to buy frames from your eye doctor. Contact lenses may be an option, too.

I spend a lot of time on the computer, and the only thing I suffer from is a bit of eye strain, which I ease by using reading glasses. I go every other year, but only because I don't seem to need glasses yet.

Good luck! The world looks much better in focus.

First, the eye exam is painless, and effortless. So thats that.
About the computer and TV hurting your eyes. Well, it is as true as you will grow a hump in your back if you dont finish your milk.
And wearing glasses is cooler than not. Just buy a very nice and expensive frame. and be cool. And even if you DON'T want to wear glasses, you can still wear contacts.
But whatever you do. GET THE EYE EXAM.
Be healthy

Watching tv up close and using the computer a lot is a myth for making your eyes worse. It happens naturally because of the shape of your eye or diseases, not your activities. You can try on different styles of frames, if you don't like them...just get contacts. Good luck!

if you're having a hard time reading the board and all of your family members wear glasses, then yeah, you probably will to. they're not as bad as people make them out to be. and if your responsible enough with your glasses, then maybe your mom will let you get contacts.
