I have floaters, and a grey spot....?!

Question: I have floaters and a grey spot.
When I told my eye doctor I was seeing these, he told me I was fine unless I start seeing flashes of light, without running any tests or anything.
I've read about floaters online and all, but is this dangerous?
My vision sucks, and seems to be getting worse, gradually of course. But what do these flashes of light look like?
Sometmes after I see a bring light, camera flash, etc. when I look at something else I'll still see the light.
I'm just wondering if anyone could help me out, tell me if it's something severe... describe to me what these flashes of light look like, whatever.
I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

You've only got two eyes. Get a second opinion. Go to an ophthalmologist (not an optometrist,) for a complete eye exam. Be prepared to ask questions and don't leave unless they've taken time to answer you to your satisfaction.

Better safe than sorry. They're your eyes and if you're not satisfied with the answers you got then ask someone who will be more thorough, or at least take the time to explain it better.

I wouldn't worry about it. Your optometrist said that it would only be bad if you saw flashes of light.

Many people experience floaters, grey spots, etc, and it's never been that serious, unless everywhere you look you seem to halucinate.

I have floaters, they are left over from a car accident that I had at 17, they are harmless, I am 43 and my eyes are just fine. The eye doctor checked you grey spot, that sounds a little more serious. If it is worrying you, get a second opinion.

See and Ophthalmologist, not an optometrist. Floaters, even without flashes of light, can be an indicator of something serious going on and you need a full exam to determine whether there is or not.
