What index lenses should I use for my high prescription?!
Question: I want the best possible vision, I don't care about looks. Could I use a 1.51 index lens with a prescription of -7.0 in both eyes?
Are higher indexes only better for cosmetic purposes?

No, a thinner lens isn't just cosmetic. It is also better vision.
Reducing the edge thickness will give you much less distortion as you move away from the center of the lens.
Chromatic abberations are also reduced greatly on the edges of a thinner lens. Lightness is another big advantage of a higher index.
An Rx of - 7.00 should be at least 1.60...and lot better with 1.67 .
Of course, the choice of frame is very important to reduce thickness also.
