How to convince my mom that contacts aren't that risky?!

Question: A few weeks ago, I went to the eye doctor, and I asked my mom if I could get contacts. She told me about how she used to wear contacts but then she stopped and all that... And she thinks contacts are too risky (for like eye infections, etc.) and says I shouldn't risk "beauty" or whatever for "health". She says "You can get laser eye surgery when youre older". not to be bratty or anything, but I want contacts now way more than I will when I'm older.
How can I explain to her how contact lenses aren't that risky?

Tell her how much technology has changed since she had contacts. Acuvue 2 disposable contacts are super comfy. If you take care of them, clean them correctly, and take them out/in properly, you shouldn't have a problem. If shes worried about you getting an infection, then get daily disposables. Then your chances of infection is basically 0%. I've never heard anyone get an infection because of the lenses, its human error..like not taking them out when they should, replacing them, or not using the correct cleaning care. Have your mom talk to the Optician if you can't convince her. I've had contacts for 7 years and I've never gotten an infection (and sometimes I didn't care for them properly either *don't do that*). Good luck!

Ask her to talk with the optitian about them and make a decision after that. The optiican will be able to point out that contactoptions are wayyyyy different now then when your mom was younger. Good luck!

Well your mom is right in a way. there is a lot to wearing contacts. i have them and i wear my glasses more than i wear my contacts. The contacts have to be clean. even though they say they are disposable they aren't . You wear them every day for a month and then dispose of them. You have to have really clean hands and do not touch your clothes with them as you can get lint on your fingers and transfer it to your contacts. then you take them out of a specially sealed container contaning the antibacterial wash and other liquids to keep them hydrated. you have to practice lots to get them in your eyes without dropping them on the floor and have to start from the beginning again. once you get them in after wearing them for a while your eyes get tired and sore and sometimes dry so you have to add a few eye drops that are made special for contact lenses. then when you want to take them out you have to have really clean (washed) hands again and take them out squirt the hydration liquid on your hand so you can rub both sides of your contacts to get the protein from your eyes off of them and put them in your special container with the hydration liquid over night. If all of this is not done properly then you can get a serious eye infection that can cause you to go blind. even if you do do this properly there is still a risk that you can get an infection.
So you have to weigh the pros and cons of wearing contacts. it is great for those times where you want to look good and are cheaper than getting lasic. but that is your choice to make. Talk to your eye Doc and find out more info about it and ask your mom again once you are more knowledgeable about it and she might change her mind.
hope this helps.

Well you need to realize you do have to be VERY responsible with the contacts or you will get an infection. I suggest discussing it with your mom and the doctor, and let them know that you understand that you need to be careful of how long they're in and to keep them clean and everything. Hopefully, you'll get a chance. good luck!

(i had contacts and i even prefer my glasses they're way easier haha)
