I really need an optometrist's opinion?!

Question: I really need an optometrist's opinion!?
My prescription is -1!.25 in both eyes!. No astigmatism, no eye problems!. My vision is 20/10 corrected!. I want to be a pilot but I need to have 20/60 vision!. I am currently around 20/70!.

Because my prescription is fairly mild and because my vision is SO close, is there anyway that plus lenses could help improve my vision slightly!?

I know that after a summer away from school my vision is as good as 20/40!.!.!.but it never lasts more than 2 months once I'm back to school!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, to be safe, study without your glasses or wear some plus if you like!. You could try going without glasses!. That would be like an emmetrope wearing + 1!.25 each eye!. See an optometrist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

How is your vision constantly changing!? I am confused!. Could you please reword or re-explain your question!?

But, I can try to answer your questions as best as I can!.

Plus lenses (+) will only help you with nearsightedness!. I can't tell if you are nearsighted, or farsighted, but you should know yourself!.

Only an exam by an optometrist will determine whether you are fit to be a pilot!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yup!. You need an optometrist to take a look at your eyes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think you are asking if there is a way to improve your distance vision by using plus lenses so that you will be able to be a pilot!.

I came across a link about doing that in an e-mail that was forwarded to me!. I sent it to your e-mail!. I am not nearsighted so I do not have a way to test or to know the validity of what the site is claiming to do!. I do not feel comfortable posting it for that reason!.

Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

no you do not need optometrist you need ophthalmologists for this !:))dWww@Answer-Health@Com

To be a pilot, you need vision of 20/20 or better with correction!. The 20/60 0r 20/70 is your uncorrected vision!. As it's correctable, you are OK!.

The eye optics are sort of like this!.

P or power is equal to 1/d where d is in meters!.

If your eye is too strong, and you are focused closer than infinity, and you are already focused at 1 meter in front of you, you are +1!.00 too powerful!. Light is bent too much by your lens system of your eye!.!.!. the cornea and the lens inside the eye!. This means you'd need a -1!.00 lens to neutralize that stronger than normal +1!.00 vision to be focused at infinity or 14 feet or so!.

If you were even stronger, and were focused at 1/2 meter in front of you, and the lens system of your eyes bends light even more, then you'd need a -2!.00 lens to 'neutralize' that too powerful lens system of your eyes!. Your distance measurement of 20/20 would be 'normal' when you put on those corrected lenses!.

If you were focused even stronger and at a third of a meter in front of you, you'd need a -3!.00 correction!.

At a focus of a quarter of a meter, need a -4!.00
fifth of a meter, -5!.00
sixth of a miter, - 6!.00 etc!.

As you are a -1!.25, you are focused at a little less than a meter away!. When you used those glasses, you see well!. This would be pretty good when in the plane as you'd be focused pretty much right on the instrument panel!.!.!.nice!.

But that distance vision is important because you need to be able to look for traffic out there and not be running into other planes, which sort of ruins the day a bit!.

I'd suggest contact lenses NOT be used!. As if you get a piece of dirt of foreign body under then lens while flying, you'll have to take your attention off the flying of the plane to fix that problem when you should be looking for traffic, maintaining altitude and course and speed, or tracking your VOR or ILS setting or whatever!.

Sounds to me like you'll be OK!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
