While dilated, you are extremelly light-senstive and you will lose the ability to see up close, which is particularly bad if you already suffer from presbyopia (the need for bifocals) So reading and such becomes somewhat difficult after a dilated exam!. They do not recommend driving because of the light-sensitivity!. If you do have someone that could come with you, it would be best to bring them so they can drive, or schedule your appointment for early in the evening so that the sun has gone down, if they have evening appointments!. I know some places run 8-430 or so!. The average person can expect to be dilated for 6-8 hours, but it can last longer in certain individuals!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Things seem too-bright and it's hard to focus on near tasks- it will probably be difficult to do work because you wont be able to read well!.
Your best bet is to get a later appointment and take half a day off of work- have someone drive you home if you've never had a dilated eye exam before- some people can see well enough to drive, others cannot!.
