Eyeglasses?!

Question: Eyeglasses!?
Hello all!

I'm curious how much ultraviolet light (and what type) is stopped when passing through normal glass!.

As well, does anyone know of a pair of sunglasses that can block out as much uv light as possible but without a tint (like yellow, brown, grey)!?

Please no guesses or opinions without fact!. =)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
ALL lenses filter some or most of UVA and UVB!. Any good commercially made sunglasses will have a sticker or emblem stating they are 100% UV protected!.

As for clear lenses, polycarbonate, what Lenscrafters calls "featherwates" and Hi index lenses are 100% UVA and UVB protected!. No tinting!.

Hope that helped!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, there's absolutely a pair of glasses that filters uv without being coloured- NoIR sells this!. Order the grey uv-shield 90% clear colour!. Although it is technically grey, it's like the handling tint on contacts- once you're wearing it, it's not a difference your eye can notice- it will do NOTHING to reduce light!. That said, because NoIR sells fairly shielding styles (ones that don't allow too much light to enter through anything but the glasses themselves) the reduction in UV is 100% through the glasses, with VERY little unfiltered light leakage- much less than more 'traditional' glasses!.

There's also the NoIR (not uv-shield) Amber or Yellow colours- this IS tinted, but about 10% brighter than most 'drug store' sunglasses, and it not only blocks UV but infared, which regular drug store sunglasses do not!. This is a good option if you don't particularly like how 'dark' regular sunglasses are!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't think regular glasses protect you from UV rays of any type!.

You can get glasses that have a clear coating that helps protect your eyes, but I don't know the details of it!.

Go talk to an optometrist :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you get a UV protection coating on your glasses it will block out UVA AND UVB rays!.
