If my disk-to-cup ratio is large and glaucoma runs in my family, will I go blind!

Question: If my disk-to-cup ratio is large and glaucoma runs in my family, will I go blind!?
Answers:
Correction, it's called the cup-to-disc ration!. It is a way of quantifying one measurement of the optic nerve as seen by the doctor when he looks into your eyes!. Larger cups and the family history of glaucoma are known as risk factors for glaucoma!. They do not guarantee that you will develop glaucoma!. Your eye doctor will follow you periodically and probably take pictures and measurements of your optic nerve (this is where the cup is located) as it presently exists so that future comparisons can be made!. A large cup that doesn't change is less concerning that a large cup that gets bigger!. If more people in your family develop glaucoma, then you will climb higher on the risk category ladder!. Only if you are diagnosed with glaucoma AND if your glaucoma cannot be controlled will you go blind from glaucoma!.

Have regular eye examinations, and do NOT be concerned until your eye doctor becomes concerned!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
