Dry eyes help?!

Question: Dry eyes help!?
I don't wera contact lenses or glasses or anything but my eyes keep drying out and when I keep them open for too long without blinking, they water!. How do I stop this!? I use eye drops (like clear eyes and visine) but they only help temporarily!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Visine is COMPLETE crap for someone with dry eye! You should never, ever use it!. Not even once!. The preservative used, benzalkonium chloride (bak) is good enough at killing healthy corneas and tear films- to say nothing of already disturbed ones!. BAD, bad stuff!.

Instead, you need to buy a few different brands of PRESERVATIVE FREE eye drops in single-use vials!. Even if it's preservative free, don't buy anything like 'refresh pm' or 'lacrilube'- this can REDUCE the wetting capability of your eyes!. With other PF drops, every drug store has them!. I say a 'few different' boxes because it's likely you'll hate a few and experience good or great levels of relief on one or two- just make sure to read the ingredients to assure you're not getting the same product twice! If you still need to use the drops more often than every 3 hours, though, it's time to be looking into environmental modifications outside of simple eye drops!.

But don't worry about those changes until you get a chance to see an ophthalmologist, which should be very soon- some causes of dry eye can be resolved!. Even if yours cannot, a proper diagnosis makes all the difference in learning how to properly treat it!. At minimum, he needs to test your tear production and tear break up time!. He may offer you plugs, which can help reduce tear drainage by blocking 1/2th of your tear's way of escaping from the eye!. If your dry eye is 'evaporative' you'll want to talk about lid scrubs!. What he probably WONT talk about is the other modifications dry eye patients make- such as running a humidifier, redirecting vents, wearing moisture chamber glasses, ect!.

If you cross that road and are diagnosed with a relatively impossible to 'cure' case of dry eye, well, welcome to the club! We wish you didn't have to join us!. But you're here, so it's time to find out about all those things your doctor wont give you the chair time for!. Head on over to http://dryeyezone!.com/faq/checklist!.html and take seriously all those suggestions- most people on that site, myself included, are long term and moderate or severe dry eye suffers!. Many people, unlike myself, become quite their own experts in eyes and especially tear films while treating their own eyes- in that respect, I bow to their experience!. Use their experience for your own avoidance of mistakes and your own comfort- everyone is happy to give it!.

Take care! Dry eye is irritating and frustrating, but we do manage to live with it and have a pretty good life that that- the first year is tough, but you'll adjust, given the time to find the tools you need to care for your own eyes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You might have Chronic Dry Eyes you should see a doctor or optometrist to see if they have anything better than the eye drops you are using now!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
