Hi Elias

Contact lenses are fitted to all sorts of people and one of the factors in determining whether to fit is to assess the maturity of the patient!.

However, assessing maturity is subjective and you need to convince your professional that you have thought this one through!.

I suggest you ask questions about what you need to do to look after contact lenses!.

For example, some contact lens solutions will give you a chemical burn if used incorrectly and others will not!. Speak to your practitioner about their preferred product and why they like it!.

Ask about the different types of lenses and modality of wear i!.e!. daily or monthly wear!.

Then ask if you could wear lenses on a part time basis using daily disposables!. This way you will need no solution and you will always insert a sterile product thereby reducing the risk associated with non-compliant use!.

Giving them a solution to the non-compliance problem shows that you are more mature than they imagined!.

Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

Its got nothing to do with responsibility!. It has to do with the shape of the eyes- contacs are made for adults, whose eyes are bigger in size than a childs!. Quite simply, they would not fit to your eyes!. When the eyes are bigger, the contacts will fit!. The lenses are mass-produced, and then they are distributed according to the prescription for the lenses!. There is no way to alter the size of them!. Just be paitent, and wait!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I was in the same situation when I was your age!. My optometrist told me that I was too young for them because my eyes were still changing!. She told me that it would be better to wait until my prescription didn't need changing for more then a year!. She also said that wearing contacts before my eyes finished growing could damage them!. Just be patient and wait!. I was able to get mine just after I turned 16, and I have horrible eyesight and an astigmatism so it might not even take you that long!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i guess they figure that as you're young you're more likely to irritate your eyes, not clean your lenses/hands etc properly!.!.!.!. and also as you're still growing and changing, they don't want to damage your eyes

to show that you're responsible, do research on different types, the best way of keeping them clean (or if dailies why they're better - less chance of infection etc) and demonstrate that you're able to take care of your eyes and lensesWww@Answer-Health@Com
