How hard is it getting used to contact lenses?!

Question: How hard is it getting used to contact lenses!?
I'm getting married in August and although I don't wear my glasses all of the time - I probably should!. I'm just scared my eyes will become too dependant on them and I won't be able to not wear them!. I want to try contacts so I can wear them on the big day!. But I'm scared they will go behind my eye or break apart of something else horrendous! Can anyone tell me their expereinces!? Also, will my eyes become dependant on them the more I wear them!? ThanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

Contact lenses cannot go behind the eye - that's a myth they eyelid and eye is a sealed flap - the worst they can do is get stuck under the lid and be removed very easily!. to break a lens (hard) you have to deliberately stamp on it they are very Strong!. soft lenses can tear if handled very roughly but in 30 years of lens wearing I've only done that 2 times and that was while cleaning very roughly after wearing!

Hadrd Gas permeable lenses many take a few weeks to get used to and are not suitable if you have dry eyes!.

Soft lenses (inc daily) disposables can be acclimatised in a few days they!.

Your eyes will change less quickly with lenses than with glasses as the eye does get used to them but you won't become more dependant upon them - other than maybe having better vision than glasses!.!.

I'd recommend them over glasses and that over laser surgery!

many opticians give a Free trial so give them a try and find out for yourself - the only issue to get over is being squeamish about touching your eye!. get used to it my trying to rub your bottom eyelid (no not with long nails though)Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you need to wear your glasses, then just wear them!. I always try avoiding wearing my glasses and its really annoying because everything seems blurred! Yours eyes won't become dependent on them, it will be up to you when you wear them or not!. I think its a good idea wearing contact lenses !. Both my sister and dad have been wearing them for years(about 25 years in my dad's case!) and they haven't had any problems!. The only thing is that the it can take some time to put them in and out the first couple of times but once you get used to it, you'll be fine!. I recommend getting contact lenses as soon as possible so that you can adjust to wearing them before your wedding!.
Congrats about your wedding!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's really not hard at all!. They won't go behind your eye and if you are not worried about putting your finger in your eye I don't think you will have any trouble!.

Give it a try - but I'd say do it earlier rather than later so you can get used to them just forget about them on your big day!. Oh and have some refreshing eye drops ready just in case, on a long day my eyes sometimes get a little dry!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm 16 and just started on them a few months ago!. They took me a week to get used to!.

The contacts won't break in your eye so that you won't have to worry!. However, when handling them, always ensure they are moist - eg!. dabbing your hands in saline or the disinfecting solution before removing them or they can crack easily!.

For the dependency part, everyone's different!. Physically, my eyes aren't addicted to wearing them but I myself am!. I find they've improved my self esteem and I can't seem to take a break from wearing them everyday, even though I tell myself to!.

I hope this has helped and I wish you, husband and future family all the best in the years to come! (=Www@Answer-Health@Com

When I started wearing contacts I wore them for an hour the first day, then two hours the second day and built up to wearing them all day!. I know its a slow progress but it does work!.
Also I forgot to add that my optician advised me to build up to wearing them all day as it helps your eyes to adjust to them as well!.
Good luck and congratulations on your forthcoming wedding!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

many opticians do a free 5 day trial for contacts-all you have to pay for is the eye test-I have just started using daily disposable lenses and didn't know I was wearing them after 5 minutes!.I got two aftercare checks (free again) to make sure all was OK!.Give it a go-be brave!I don't know if you are in the UK but Specsavers and Vision Express are currently doing free trials!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Firstly, contact lenses CANNOT go behind your eye, so stop panicking about that!. I've worn contacts every day of my life since I was 16 - I'm 28 now!. I wear the soft torric ones and I can honestly say hand on heart that I've not had any drama with them!. Yes, you're eyes will probably get dependant on them but you will get used to wearing them and in time you could always go for laser eye surgery!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I wouldnt bother wearing contact lenses if its just a one off!.

Seriously, it took me hours to learn how to put them in!. Of course once youve got the hang of it its dead easy!.

but as a one off !.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. dont bother!.

Otherwise, they are completely safe, the worst Ive had is when its been really cold weather and ive pulled them off my eye and they kind of came off like a suction cap!. It sounds more gruesome than the reality of it though!. They are perfectly safe, but too bothersome for a one off event!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Speaking from experience: soft contact lenses; you just put them in and forget about them!. Don't forget to take them out though! Any getting used to period is only a few days, if that! Hard contacts do take a few days to get used to!. However, they're cheaper and easier to clean!. Best of luck on your big day!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
