Hi hon1 Maybe I can help! "Drill mounting" does take special lenses that are more impact resistant than a regular lens!. That is expensive!. Then, they also take special processing to drill the lenses!. Keep in mind that most labs "waste" 2 or 3 sets of lenses doing this!. Really, they ruin some most of the time trying to get the drilling perfect for you and your prescription!. They pass that on with the "drill mounting fee" Some places charge more than we do, but we use a lab that does not charge much to drill becuase they have really new equipmetn that does not hae a lot of "do overs!." Most of the frames for a drill mount are titanium or stainless steel and do cost around $200 in our office here in SO CA!. A Trivex lense with anti reflective coating and drill mounting would cost:
Single Vision Lenses: $70
Trivex: $70
Drill mount: $50
Edge Polish $20

That is just for a lense with no coatings!. Rivex is a drillable lense that has scratch coating with a year warranty and UV does not pass through it so it does not need UV screen either!. that is $210!. Cosmetic tinting, Anti Reflective coatings and Photo sensitive lenses are all extra as well if you have them added!. Drill mounted lenses are not cheap!. You may have had a discount last time if they were running a sale!. Some insurance companies have discounts when you buy a complete pair, but do not have a discount if you buy lenses only for your own frame!. So, there are many things it could be!. Also understand that a lot of us have raised our prices for our lenses becuase the lense pricing has gone up due to shipping fees doubling and tripling with gas prices going up shipping prices change! It is an unfortunatel thing in times like these! Most of the time when someone says that they think things are way more expensive than last timer, I look it up and find out that they actually paid more and they are surprised when I run a coply of their previous invoice!. Ask them to break it all down and explain it to you!. Also, ask really nicely to see last year's invoice so that you can see what you did pay, and what for!. Most opticians do know that glasses are expensive and hard to pay for, and they will do this for you so that you understand!. If they are not nice about it, go shop for a different optician! Most of us are not trying to rip the public off!. Notice, we do not cruise around town with fancy cars!.!.!.!.!.you rarely hear, "WOW! They really make the dough!.!.!.!.they ARE an optician, you know!.!.!.!.!." As an industry we really are not big income makers, so the costs are realtive to our costs of opperation and materials!. I bet if you talk to them about it they will explain it to you and show you!. Try! Good luck and I hope you are able to get your glasses done and that you love them!Www@Answer-Health@Com

My eye doctor charges even more than that!. They told me the frame less glasses have to be sent back to the manufacturer in order to change or repair them!. I don't understand why they just can't fix the glasses at the office!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
