Question: Are contacts safe for 12 year olds!?!?
I was just wondering because when i asked my dad if i could have contacts (because i play softball and want to wear sunglasses) he said its not safe!. And EVERYONE i know that wears glasses has at least one pair of contacts!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

your dad is probably thinking about back in the day when contacts used to be hard and actually pretty painful to put in! today they are just thin plastic things made of almost all water!.

It varies on how mature is your child is!. If you constantly have to nag them to do simple chores, then it is more likely you will have the same arguments when it comes to taking care of the contact lenses!. Remember it is not only another chore for your child but for you as well, so you must be prepared for the added responsibility!. As far as being safe yes as long as you follow your optometrists directions and remove them every night (which is a huge rule that is regularly broken by kids) By law you must get a new eye exam every year, and the optometrist will be able to tell if your child has been abusing them!. Always have eyeglasses on hand and remember that contacts is a back up to glasses not vice versa, so keep the eyeglasses up to date!Www@Answer-Health@Com
I worked in an optometrist office for 5 years and I can assure you contacts are safe when you follow your doctors instructions on use!. If they say to take them out every night, you need to do it!. There is a higher risk for eye infections and the possiblity of other complications if you do not do what they recommend!. You also need to make sure that you never share your contacts with friends because you can catch diseases from other peoples eyes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Yes!. they are very safe!. ive had contacts since 5th grade till now!. but the important thing is that you don't sleep in them, because your contacts could make your eye infected!. And also if you are swimming, just go underwater and open your eyes very quickly then come out of the water!. do that maybe 3 or 4 times!. and then you can swim under water, with your eyes open and they won't fall out!. because the density of the water makes the contact sucion cup to your eyes ( it doesn;t hurt) then a while after swimming you can move the contact around (Btw sorry if im giving to much info that you didnt need to know, i just thought that you might want to know) ;)Www@Answer-Health@Com
i remember my parents telling me that it is not safe!. however it is!. your eye doctor will tell you that!. my husband started wearing contacts at 10 and that was when contacts were still new!. about 17 years ago (i think!?!?)!. Anyway!.!.!. now contacts are way more advance and are definetly safe for you to wear!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I wear contacts and have for 19 years, and as long as you take care of them and your eyes it is perfectly safe, as a matter of fact the optomitrist we go to specializes in eye disease and he suggested them from my 12 year old son!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Yes contacts are safe, they have the same danger amount for everyone!. Some of the risks of having conacts are dry eyes and infection!. Children have higher risks of getting thease riska because they are less careful and i think thats what your dad ment!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well i dont know, nor have i ever worn contacts but my GUESS would be YES it is safe IF the 12 year old is putting them in correctly, taking them out correctly, and taking care of them!.!.!.!.

Soft contact lenses are safe!. I wore hard contacts since I was eight!. I'm 20 now and still wearing them with no problem!. You just gotta know how to take care of your lenses and eyes, and the optometrist will take you through a tutorial!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
They are completely safe!. But because your eyes are growing still, you will need to go on regular visits to your optometrist!. Your prescription will also change a lot more frequently as this growth occurs!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's safe! I got mine when i was 12 and they're great!! just make sure you get a eye doctor to tell you how to put em in an stuff!.!.!.other than that its totally safe and a big help! :]Www@Answer-Health@Com
