Is it normal to have a contact prescription that is higher than the eyeglass pre!

Question: Is it normal to have a contact prescription that is higher than the eyeglass prescription!?
My eyeglasses prescription is -1!.25/-1!.00 (L/R), steady for ~7yrs, last checked in Dec'07!. Last week I got contacts, Acuvue Oasys, and after some fuss, the prescription turned out to be -1!.50/-1!.25!.

I don't know if it's relevant, but I had some trouble with the contact lense base curvature initially!. My first visit resulted in the same prescription as my glasses, -1!.25 bc8!.4 / -1!.00 bc8!.4, but after a couple days my right eye just didn't feel right (got blurry every time I blinked), so I went back for another exam and was told my right eye had a different bc, and I ended up with -1!.50 bc8!.4 / -1!.25 bc8!.8!.

I know it's a small difference, but I always thought that contact prescriptions are usually the lower of the two!. Should I get a second opinion!? And did the base curvature issue have anything to do with the increase in power!? Any help on clarifying this would be much appreciated!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Yes it is be normal to have contact lens prescription that is different from an eyeglass prescription!. If you have a small amount of astigmatism such as -!.50 diopters, the doctor may add it -!.25 to the spherical number to compensate for the astigmatism!.

My right eye has normal vision and does not require correction and I only correct my left eye!. My contact lens prescription is PL -1!.25 X 60 and my eyeglasses prescription is PL -1!.50 X 50!. My eyeglasses prescription is the correct number, however my contact lens cylinder number goes in steps of !.50 diopters starting from -!.75 so -1!.25 is the closest I can get to my actual prescription without overcorrecting!. Torics are weighted contact lens that must stay in place to work correctly the lens rotates to 60 rather than 50!.

Also the cylindrical number in a toric prescription usually goes increments of !.50 diopters!.

I hope this helps :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
