I have been reading E-books for many years on my laptop and PDA (much smaller)!. I actually find it to be much easier than physically holding a book and reading it!. It has not made my vision better or worse as a result!.
I do eye exercises to help minimize eyestrain!. I look away from the computer screen for 1-3 minutes every 30 to 45 minutes and change my focus to a distant object then I return to a near one and repeat that several times!.
Another thing that helps me is rapid eye blinking to help lubricate the eyes naturally because people have a tendency to blink less often when using a computer!. I do this a few times a day as needed!. I do this at work when I use the restroom!. I am sure I would get some strange looks if I did it at my desk!.
I do wear corrective lenses but I do not need them on the computer (not using them now)!. My right eye is normal and my left eye has a moderate amount of astigmatism and distance objects are a little blurry!. I am not not nearsighted!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I agree with the other posts!. Also, make sure the screen is the same brightness as the lighting in your room, and have the screen at least arm's length away!. I think taking breaks is the best advice!.
Computers can cause eyestrain, headache, and fatigue (as you know), but they don't change your actual vision, so don't worry too much about damaging your eyes this way!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The advice is to turn down the brightness to just what you need!. And to take a five minute break every hour!. Focus on something in the far distance!. Any damage that you describe is short term and will fix itself!. However a habit like this will tend to make you short sighted!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
