Because there's more technology involved in making them!. You have two prescriptions in the same eye at right angles from each other!. Both must be incorporated into the lens!. Also, the lens must be designed so that it sits in one position while on your eye in order to keep the vision clear!. With spherical (non-astigmatism) lenses, the powers are the same all over the lens, so it can spin like the hands on a clock and the vision never changes!. Not so with astigmatism lenses!.
