How blind to you have to be to get a seeing eye dog?!

Question: How blind to you have to be to get a seeing eye dog!?
Answers:
Legally blind in both eyes!. If you can see out of one eye with corrective lenses, then you aren't legally blind!.

Definition of Legal blindness:

Legal blindness: The criteria used to determine eligibility for government disability benefits and which do not necessarily indicate a person's ability to function!.

In the US, the criteria for legal blindness are:

* Visual acuity of 20/200 or worse in the better eye with corrective lenses (20/200 means that a person at 20 feet from an eye chart can see what a person with normal vision can see at 200 feet);

or

* Visual field restriction to 20 degrees diameter or less (tunnel vision) in the better eye!.

Note that the definition of legal blindness differs from country to country and that the criteria listed above are for the US!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In addition to being legally blind in both eyes (it is not possible to be legally blind in just one eye), you must also have difficulty finding your way!. This is assessed by orientation and mobility experts based on how well you are able to navigate!. However, many visually impaired choose a dog instead of other options!. You will need to apply for one and attend a training program that teaches how to use your dog!.

If you think you need a seeing eye dog, ask your eye doctor for a referral to the local agency that does assessments!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
