Because you do not blink while you are asleep, your eyes dry out!. You now have essentially a foreign body (the lens) resting on a very dry cornea!. This can lead to abrasions & ulcerations to the cornea which may scar!. A few times may not hurt, but you increase the risk everytime you do it!. You might not be aware of all the abrasions, but your cornea is suffering!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I was one of those people who abused their contacts- I did for years actually!. But one day, aftering wearing them way too long (and sleeping in them) I noticed this little white cloud looking area on the iris (colored part) of my eye and when I went to the opthamologist the next day I was told it was an ulcer!. Anyway, having one ulcer makes your eyes more vulneruble to others (like the same way spraining your ankle makes you more vulnerable to future sprains)!. I ended up geting 4 corneal ulcers in 2 years (and at this time I was actually wearing them properly) before I decided to give them up for good!.!.!. so now I am always wearing my glasses!. Corneal ulcers are a big deal- the outside of your eye is not sterile, but the inside is supposed to be!. Once the bacteria gets into the inside of your eye, all it has to do is cross the optic nerve and then it's in your central neverous system!. This can cause meningitis, which can (and often does) kill!. So like I said, corneal ulcers are a big deal (even if they don't lead to you being sick, they can lead to scaring and disfigurment)!. Lucky for me I didn't suffer any disfigurment and the ulcers responded well to antibiotics, but not everyone is so lucky!. PLEASE DON'T ABUSE YOUR CONTACTS!. Only wear them a few days out of the week, and not for more than 10 hours at a time!. And never sleep in them! Even if they are designed to be slept in, if you've ever had a corneal ulcer the whole "you can sleep in them" does not apply to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I used to do it all the time!. Your eyes will be dry, and that's about it!. You'll be fine!. They say you can get an infection from it, but in my 12 years of contact lens wearing, I never did!. I eventually got Lasik (which is awesome) but before I did, I used to sleep in the lenses most nights!.!.!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
