The phenomenon is called the waterfall effect, and i think (from lectures a few years ago) it is due to the directional cells in the retina becoming adapted to the constant movement of things going past you!. So when you stop moving, the cells are "bleached" and it appears like things are still moving, however as you are no longer moving, it seems like things are moving in the opposite direction!. (a bit confusing and poorly explained, i know)!.

Thats why it happens, whether what is happening to you is normal or not, i don't really know!. As others suggested it may be an ear related thing, perhaps if your worried a visit to the optometrist may help!.

If you want to find out more, im sure if you google waterfall illusions, you will get some illusions, info and probably a better explanation!.

Hope this made sense!Www@Answer-Health@Com

This is much more likely to be an inner ear problem (balance, vertigo) than an eye one!. Disturbances or infections there can cause abnormal eye movements, through a disconnect between what the eyes and the ears are reporting for movement and verticality!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, I haven't!.!.!. sorry!. That's weird!.
I know after I've been on a boat or roller coaster a lot in one day when I lay down I still feel like I'm on it!. lol That's normal though!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

sounds like you need a doctor- not a optometrist!. It may be a form of vertigo or something else but I wouldn't leave it for too long!. all the best:)Www@Answer-Health@Com
