Has your child had strabismus surgery?!

Question: Has your child had strabismus surgery!?
My son is going to have this(he's two) and I'm wondering what to expect!. Everything I find recommends therapy, but all of the examples are for older children and adults!. What has your experience been like!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

*This is my opinion!.*

I worked with a pediatric ophthalmologist and saw several children your son's age (and even younger) who needed strabismus surgery!. In the clinic I worked in, the youngest children have their surgeries first!. It is done in an outpatient clinic, so after the procedure and after your child is awake and released, you can go home!. Many children are groggy from the anaesthesia and some may vomit on the ride home from the hospital (be prepared)!. The eyes will be red and your child shouldn't rub them!. Many doctors prescribe an antibiotic medication (eye drops or ointment) to prevent infection in the eyes!. Many doctors will see your child in the next week or so to see how they're healing and will probably follow him pretty closely!. Most of the children I saw were back to their normal, active selves the next day after surgery!. (except for the red eyes, which didn't seem to bother them)

There are many conditions where success of strabismus surgery is best when done before the age of two!. I obviously don't know about your son's particular situation!. You should ask your ophthalmologist and nurse the specific questions you have!. If you are uncomfortable, it's okay to get a second opinion!.

Good luck to you and your son!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
