It sounds like your Nephew may have Marfan's Syndrome!. This sometimes causes the lens inside the eye to move and necessitates its removal!. In older patients who have the lens removed due to cataract it is normal to replace the lens with a plastic one!. In younger children it is not usual practice to replace the lens; partly because of the way the lens is removed and partly due to worries over the length of time the lens will last ( a 4 year old is likely to live much longer than a 60 year old)!.

When the lens is removed everything, at all distances, will be blurry!. Your Nephew will not be able to see up-close clearly!. Of course by moving an object closer it effectively becomes bigger so may be more visible to him!. However it will still not be "clear" in the way you mean!. Hopefully he was given glasses to correct his vision!. He should wear these all the time!. In the future they may try contact lenses to correct his vision - if they haven't done so already!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The lens controls the focusing of the light rays that enter the eye!. The cornea and to a limited extent, the pupil, do as well!. So it is possible to see a little without lens replacements!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
