Do you think contacts for a 13 year old is a good idea?!

Question: Do you think contacts for a 13 year old is a good idea!?
My daughter wants contacts, mostly for her fitness class!. I remember when I was her age, my glasses did get in the way when perspiring but are children responsible enough for contacts!. She is near sighted (can't see far away) and has astigmatism!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
There is no minimum age for contacts!. Children should be allowed to wear contacts when they have the maturity to take care of them!. If your daughter wants contacts for sports, the best option are daily disposable contacts!. These contacts are worn for (maximum) one day, and then thrown away!. Daily disposable contacts (when worn correctly) are very safe because there is no cleaning involved, and a fresh pair is worn every day!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I spoke to my sons optometrist about this very question a few weeks ago, he explained to me that it really was up to the parent!.
Children can be more responsible then adults sometimes when it come to things that they care about!. You can wear contacts even with an astigmatism!.
Its just important to get them fitted properly and bi-annual visits are nessisary!. Don't skimp- if you would choose to use disposables, buy enough!.

call your dr and see what that they think!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

For sure!. Contacts made life so much easier for me if your willing to pay for them!. There shouldn't be anything wrong physically it would just depend on if shes responsible enough to keep everything in order and remember to take them out before sleeping!. (or she'll wake up with sorta gluey unhappy eyes)
If shes sensitive to some chemicals she might have a slight allergic reaction to some of the solutions, it just takes a little bit of trial and error till you find one that works and doesn't make your eyes red!
And for sure go for the ones that let oxygen go through, your eyes will hate you if you dont!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

my son got contacts and he is 12!. I tried for 3 years to get him to try them out because he is near sighted with astigmatism, and MUST have his glasses on!. They got in the way of playing outside, sports, etc!. Sweat constantly made them fall off even after adjusting them!. One day he finally asked me if I would take him to get contacts and since I worked with several eye doctors, I knew which one was qualified, and I knew it was possible!. He absolutely loves them and wishes he would have gotten them years ago!. He knows how to put them in and take them out without a mirror now!. He keeps a small bottle of solution in his homeroom class, gym locker, and in a small back pack that he takes where ever he goes!. He has slept in them a couple of times, but immediately took them out in the am!. Give your daughter a chance!. if you wear contacts then you will be a tremendous help to her and a good teacher for habits to maintain!. If she doesnt like them, then at least she knows!. Call around and find an eye doctor that you feel is qualified!. There are several options out there for young wearers of contacts so discuss this with the doctor!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, I think it's fine!. I know some people in 2nd and 3rd grade who have contacts!. But, I think it depends on the person!. Some kids just can't seem to put them in!. If your daughter is responsible enough to do it by herself then definitely go for it!. Contacts make life so much easier!.
But be sure to tell her to bring extra solution to school just incase they are uncomfortable or bothering her for some reason!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I let my son start wearing them for football when he was 10 (glasses didn't fit well inside a helmet)!. We started out just using them for football, but he did so good with them that he was able to wear them full time within about a month of getting them!.

Mostly, you just have to be sure she is mature enough to take care of them correctly and to be sure to always wash her hands before she touches them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In the past, it would be a healthy eye issue with oxygen levels, etc!.

Now, with technology advancements, it seems 90% a responsibility issue!.

At the same time, no 13 year old is totally matured and will take small risks like having them in much longer than recommended and taking short cuts with the hygiene part - or just not truly understanding the microbiology behind the care / hygiene part!.

She could get rec-specs that are the norm for most adolescents that are nearsighted to that degree!.

I also think your ophthalmologist will be able to give advice and counsel!.

i got my contacts when i was 11 and a half and i just turned 13!. i am a pretty responsible kid!. and it was very easy to get used to!. i am also near sighted and it helped me alot espescially in every class!. i think it is fine because alot of kids have them and they are responsible with them!. just be sure that she takes them out every night and when she goes swimming!. if she doesnt she could get an infection Www@Answer-Health@Com

My son asked for contacts rather than glasses at the age of 12!. I thought this was too young, too!. I reluctantly agreed, but it has been great!. It was hard at first to learn to get them in and out, but everyone has to go through the learning process!. After just a few days, he was a pro!. I'm glad we went ahead with the contacts!. He's 13 and is still doing great with them!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

yeah!. im 13 and i have glasses but i like glasses more than contacts and i have a ton of friends who like contacts more that luv them!. i think u should keep her glasses and let her try contacts if it doesn't work, give her the glasses back and u should always keep the glasses anyway in case anything gos wrongWww@Answer-Health@Com

My eyesight went down hill OFFICIALLY when I was 14!.

I tried contacts at 14 and I didn't like them!.!.!. Nothing "Wrong" with them, I just had soft contacts and I didn't like them!.

Try the breathable hard contacts that you can keep in for a couple of days and it won't matter!.!.!.

There is nothing wrong with letting her try them!.!.!. Theya re not that expensive and worst case!? She will use them for a few weeks and go back to glasses!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, I started wearing contacts when I was 11!.

I recommend buying daily disposable contacts for her!. They're a little more expensive, but you don't have to maintain them, and it's not a big deal if you lose one, because you throw them away every day!.

I think that 13 is old enough and a good age to get her a pair but your the mother and if you think she is responsible enough than get her a pair but if you don't feel like she is ready than wait a year or two, sorry this probably wasn't much helpWww@Answer-Health@Com

i think u should!.!.!.some children are responsible enough!.!.my brother was 13 when he got his and he hasnt lost or ripped them since he got them and hes had them for a couple of months!.!.!.give her a test run, if shes not responsible enough then take them away and give her the glasses!.!.but i think u should get themWww@Answer-Health@Com

Well, I'm not really sure but I know someone who's like 12 and she wears contacts and she's doing just fine!. I think you should buy her contacts because let's say her glasses break during fitness class, you're going to have to pay for them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i'm not sure,
if she is an old 13 (responsible)

if she isn't or is irresponsible, then
no, bad idea!.

but i see what she means,
i play field hockey,
and in the middle of practice or a game,
my glassess like, slide off my face, ahha!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yeah!. i think it's a good idea, as long as she knows the risk, & she knows how to keep her eyes clean & stuff like that!. i think u should get her glasses and like a pair of contacts for her to try to see how good she is with themm!.!.!.

My nephew is 12 and he has them, and as long as you're responsible enough to keep up with them and keep them clean, it's a great idea!. I had glasses until i was 14, and I wish i had gotten contacts sooner!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well if u trust ur daughter i would say yes give her contacts cuz if i needed contacts i would want my mom to give them to me!! but if she is not responsible enough then u shouldnt

but u should give them to her and see how it works out and if she's irresponsible then dont let her use them anymoreWww@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, as long as she is halfway responsible, she will be able to handle them!. I got contacts when I was 13, and I am 14 now, and they have been one of the best gifts my parents ever could have given to me!Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, I just got my kid (12) a pair of glasses and she begged for contacts!.!.!.but really I don't think contacts are good for them until they are old enough to really care for them, maybe 15 if they are really responsible!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Thats the age I got contacts, and I loved them!!! Its so nice not having to worry about glasses when running around doing stuff!. I play a lot of football and glasses can actually be dangerous especially if peoples fingers get in your face!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I know several 13 year olds with contacts!. She should be fine as long as she is responsible!.

No, it is to young!. Wait until she is older, or make sure they are her friends from school!. It is good that you are monitoring her computer!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
