Why is the vision in one eye significantly worse than in the other?!

Question: Why is the vision in one eye significantly worse than in the other!?
One of my eyes has always been weaker than the other!. I had 2 surgeries on it by the time I was 6, not sure if they were only to correct as it was cross eyed, or also to improve the vision!. I was given glasses, but because my sister would tease me I NEVER wore them until I was an adult!. They have gotten worse and worse to the point I can't see clearly at all in one eye without glasses which is scary considering I"m not so old and they are getting worse faster and faster!.

The last time I went to get my eyes checked, about 5 years ago, the doctor wanted a prescription lense for my good eye as well!. This was emotionally terrifying for me, the thought that my good eye was going bad too, so I protested and got a clear unprescribed lense for my "good" eye!.

I am definitely due for an eye exam - my glasses aren't as helpful I can clearly tell!. I'm just scared to see that they are getting worse and worse, maybe in denail!.

Is it safe to continue getting an unprescribed lense for my 'good' eye, to force it to see better and flex the muslce!? What do I have that one eye is so much worse than the other!?

I also feel my eyes are slightly crossed and avoid making eye contact with people which has been problematic in my life especially in relationships!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have a similar situation to yours!. My right eye has normal vision and my left eye has weaker vision!. I've had two surgeries at ages four and five, was prescribed eyeglasses that made me sick so I did not wear them, patched, and went through vision therapy!.

My doctor recommended that I wear eyeglasses for the weaker eye since I was five years old and I did not start wearing them until I was almost thirty when my right eye was having trouble compensating for the left eye!. I was experiencing headaches, double vision, and depth perception problems!.

My left eye does not see clearly without eyeglasses or contacts, but the vision is correctable!. I usually wear a contact lens in my left eye because I have better balance in my vision and do not like wearing eyeglasses!.

I suggest that you have your vision checked to at least see where you are!. If you do not want to correct your stronger eye, then be sure to tell the doctor and he/she will likely work with to meet your needs!.

Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's unclear from your question as to whether the "bad" eye sees well with glasses!. If it does, then stop worrying!. If it doesn't, it is because you have amblyopia!. It is not uncommon for one eye to need a stronger prescription than the other!. As to "why", it is just the way you are, like the shape of your nose or the colour of your hair!.

If your good eye needs glasses, it is no big deal and nothing to worry about!. Using a plano lens for that eye (if it needs a prescription lens) does not exercise it, does not flex any muscles and will not force it to see better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
