Coverage for glasses?!

Question: Coverage for glasses!?
Does Medicare now cover eyeglasses!? I REALLY need a new prescription but just can't afford it!. I'd have to buy new frames because two years ago my dog (who was then a puppy) got hold of them and chewed them and ruined the frames!. (He would chew ANYTHING when he was a puppy) I've been trying to make do with some of those reading glasses that you can buy in the drug store for about $8!.00 But it's becoming more and more obvious that I need bifocals!. I am on disability and I have Medicare and I know Medicare didn't use to cover glasses but someone told me that they think they've changed that!.!.!.!.does anyone know!? I have to survive on $789 per month and I really cannot afford to buy new glasses if I also want to eat and buy my medication for the next month!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've heard of some sort of scheme (not new though) - go to your optometrist and tell them you're on the disability support pension and you heard that there's some sort of scheme that you can get glasses for free (paid for by the government)!. Then they'll help you fill out a form!.

I'm not sure what the exact criteria is but I think it's something like full disability support pension and <$500 (maybe) in the bank!.
Also I'm not sure if they cover multifocals or bifocals, but I guess you can get a distance pair first and use your $8 pair for reading until you can go and ask for another pair

Medicare only covers glasses once after cataract surgery!. Other than that, they don't!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
