Whats the difference between reading glasses & regular glasses?!

Question: Whats the difference between reading glasses & regular glasses!?
i was at walmart today and they had these "fashion reading glasses" that you could buy in different strengths like 1!.25, 1!.50, and so on!. they had mine; +2!.50!. i wear contacts and ive been wanting to get glasses to wear when i dont have them in!. but i didnt want to have to pay like 200 dollars for glasses!. cant i just buy a pair of these cheap ones and use them as my glasses!? on the back it said "these arent a substitute for doctor-prescribed lenses" but im like wtf why!? isn't it the same thing as if i had a doctor prescribe me glasses in 2!.50 power!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yup, they're the same thing, at least in a superficial sense!. I tend to tell my patients if or when they can use those cheap ones as a substitute, but not everyone does!. Now, obviously the frames aren't as durable, and the lenses are a cheaper material (and usually aren't exactly perfect for your prescription; glasses prescriptions are different from contact lens prescriptions), but if you're using them as a backup for your contacts rather than wearing them 24x7, and as long as you've had an eye exam recently to check for an accurate prescription and eye health problems (which is why they have that disclaimer on them, by the way; they don't want to get sued if someone gets some horrible eye disease!), I'd say that's probably a pretty good idea!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think they say that because sometimes people have a different number for each eye, and those glasses only come with the same number for both sides so if you wear the wrong number it could cause your sight to get worse!. But if you have the same number on both eyes, buy them, they work, I know many people who use them!.
I believe reading glasses are designed for far-sighted people (those who have problems looking at things up close)!. The other type of glasses (the ones I have) are for the opposite, and those are not sold unless you buy them with a prescription!. Luckily for you, you can buy yours practically anywhere, so buy them!! good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

reading glasses are for forming letters up close fishen glasses r for far away fueWww@Answer-Health@Com

reading glasses are only to read if you look any futher you wont be able to see!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Wearing the wrong strength won't make your eyes worse and you won't catch some kind of eye disease by wearing the wrong strength prescription, but you might get a headache!.

Reading glasses are for reading!.

The "other" kind are for distance vision, like driving a car!.

Some glasses prescriptions are for both reading and distance, called bifocal lenses!.

Yes, the lens material is cheap and mass-produced so the magnification is not consistent in the lenses, but it will be close!. The frame material is also cheaply made, but not that cheaply made as the frames at Walmart and Sears Optical and Target Optical are all made in china!.

Eventually you will want to get a proper exam done as it checks for eye diseases, diabetes, glaucoma, high blood pressure, etc, not just the strength of your prescription!. Also, sometimes you might need correction for astigmatism, which means things are still blurry, close or far away, so again, only the doc can fix that!. Get an exam when the readers no longer work for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

one reason as mentioned before some people have a different prescription per eye!.!. as well as the "cheater" lenses arent ground for an astigmatism!.!. so they can't correct that!.!. ontop of it, they're mass produced, so the focal points on the lens arent going to be exactly where they need to be for your eyes!. you'll see, but you may get headaches!. as well as they're generally not very repairable!. as well as if you have a minus lens (thin in the middle thick on the edges) you won't be able to find something to correct that in a reader pair!.

they're good for occasional use, or an emergency!.!. you may as well get them if its only for around the house or something after you take your contacts out for the day!. but i wouldn't use them as a main pair!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
