Am I ready for contacts?!

Question: Am I ready for contacts!?
Ok, so i am now 14 years old, I would love to go and play football but my vision keeps preventing me!.!.!.

I cant see the ball clearly and all and all!.!. So since I am too young to get LASIK, I was thinking about contacts, but when I met the doctor today he took the prescription for glasses, but after that, when i mentioned lenses, he said I was too young!.

I am very well aware of the cleaning and responsibility issues, I dont think its fair, since the doc said I was too young to get lenses until 16yrs!. (BTW, he didnt even do any tests after I mentioned Contacts)

I think its unfair, but my parents go with 'him' on this, says the doc knows it all!.!.!. So I am doubting myself!. After searching the internet i was almost sure I could use them - can any of you explain why i should be prevented from wearing contacts!?

(The doctor said something about corneal infections and school, but i didnt hear anything new!.!. maybe this could help!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sorry to disagree with Matthew, but it isn't really a matter of age but more amatter of maturity!.

I have had previous experience in the optometry field and the youngest person that we fitted was 9 years old ( this was alittle young ) but she was mainly wearing them to compete in gymnastics!.

Normally we would wait until the patient was at least 12-14 years old!.

So long as you do everything you are taught in regards to care and cleaning etc, you won't have any problems!.

The hardest part for the younger patient is feeling confident enough to put them in and out!. We would often have a parent sit in on the teaching consultations and teach them how to do it for you as well!.

It is amazing the difference that it can make to some kids ( and adults) as far as there confidence etc goes!.

Don't give up talk to your parents again guide them to some websites suggest visiting another optometrist/ optican, you certainly aren't too young!.

GOOD LUCK Www@Answer-Health@Com

I know it sucks, and it's probably not what you want to hear!. However, your optician is right!. I'm 17 and couldn't imagine trying to get by wearing contacts when I was 14!. The first 2-4 weeks you will struggle to get used to wearing them!. At first they take forever to put in, and they sort of irritate your eyes!.

Trust me I know it sucks though, I have extremely poor eyesight (almost legally blind) so you're not alone!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

When i got contacts, I was 11 years old!! when i first tried to put them in, it did kinda irritate my eye but when i put both of them in, it felt so cool that i didnt have to look through glasses! It is pretty easy if your like me but if your like my brother, He took 2 hours to put them in!!! LOL!!! I think you should at least get a fitting although they do cost alot!. When i got my fitting, it costs 100 bucks just for the fitting!!! Total, the eye exam plus fitting originally would cost like 200 bucks but i got a good deal at 100 total!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i know a friend of mine was wearing glasses first for 2 years ( starting from 14) and now is sixteen so she's wearing lenses from last week!.i dunno why!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
