You are probably referring to refractive laser surgery where a glasses prescription is corrected so you don't need glasses anymore (for a while anyway- the results are never permanent)!.

A different type of laser treatment can also be used to treat medical conditions, like retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy (a common problem where diabetics have trouble with leaking blood vessels in the eye- the most common cause of blindness in the working population!) and post-operative cataract operation complications!.
